1936 Winter Olympic Etched & Colored Glass Vase # 3445
Very nice heavy colored glass vase measuring approx. 6 inches tall for the winter olympics in 1936. The piece is etched and gilded with 18-22 karat gold gilt to the front with the olympic bell designed by Walter Lemcke and which survives to this day. The inscription of the bell is present and translates to " I call the youth of the world ". To the rear " Olympic winter games Garmisch - Partenkirchen 1936 " with the Olympic rings on a U.S shield. Most likely a participants piece to a U.S athlete and probably manufactured in Germany. Upper rim and base are also highlighted in gold gilt and its a very attractive example overall.
Etched glass is tough and most of what is found in market today is embellished in the post war, pre-war colored glass can be found but the two together make this something I do not normally encounter. Nice piece.
