SS Wall Banner ( Fahne ) # 1216
Original SS flags and wall banners are so difficult to find that in
the years I have been collecting Third Reich items I can maybe count
three examples that I felt were real, none of them the same as the other
and this one is in super condition and just talks.
The
banner measures 44 H x 24 W it is wool material that is rough textured
to the front almost like a blanket, and smooth to the rear. It is single
sided with a set of nice long runes sewn against the black field, each
corner bears a steel grommet. These would be affixed to a wall and
period photos can be found of examples much like this hanging in various
SS barracks or halls.
I have seen countless inquiries for
these, and a boatload of fakes posted for review on forums from guys who
want one, here is a real one. I cannot say I am aware of a standardized
banner for the SS and they all have their own way about them, I pulled
this one out of the box and gave a good going over and no
disappointments here. If you like the smell of 80 year old wool you
will love this as it just reeks, you may however need some Tylenol and
once was not enough for me and I had to go at it a second time with the
same result. Nice piece with no damage or mothing to be found, just age
really.
