SS Totenkopf Ring ( Honor Ring ) # 1736
While I am clearly not Ansel Adams with a camera, these started out
pretty good and I have additional hi-resolution photos and alternative
photos on file for interested parties.
This is a 40's style ring for the winter solstice that is really nice with the wear being mainly on the rear panel which is par for the course. It is accompanied by a Don Boyle Certificate which is all one needs in this market and even my so-so photos should suffice here. I did take some time to surf around and see what is out there and I cannot find a conditional equivalent to this ring for the money and I would have to go to 7000.00 to get near it whether handled by the famous " History Hacker " or others. Its a very nice ring and I will type up a description as time allows.
For consideration is a winter solstice ring dated for 21.12.44 and a presentation to Werner Koehl. Being a late ring the research was narrowed down to the most likely candidate with very high probability and out of three SS Men with this name, the file was retrieved and is included of which most pages are shown here for review.
A member of the Allgemeine SS member # 347,119 with various awards inclusive of the 1931 Treffen Braunschweig badge Koehl was a long time member of the SS and was apparently and electrician. His race and settlement file reflects service awards inclusive of the EKI and EKII, Danzig Cross, and various other awards as well as service for some time in the Wehrmacht.
The ring is very nice and I would rate this at least Excellent++ with the main wear to the rear panel while the skull and side panels retain much of the original burnishing and have minimal wear. The ring was sent to Don Boyle for authentication in 2011 and the certificate is included with the file stating the rings status as original example.
The Honor Ring was solely an SS presentation and authorized by Himmler and are highly sought after pieces of history. I am thinking this is going to be around a size 8 and fits me pretty nicely. Internal engraving is sharp and shows a very nice seem. As I stated earlier I did search the market for a ring as nice and I cannot find one for an example as nice for less than 7k, so you might be hard pressed to beat it.
Buyer will be pleased with this and it is currently in my case and was happy to obtain this one for offer. Interested parties are welcome to contact me with any questions they might have on this complete package of one of the most sought after awards of the SS.
