Boxed Royal Bavarian Kings Service Reticulated Bowl- Berghof ( Nymphenburg )
While Heinrich Himmler focuses on PMA and its use as an extension of germanys cultural identity, Adolf Hitler is using both Meissen and Nymphenburg in every important building in the 3rd Reich. The unending photos of him using the pieces are quite easy to access and their use is common knowledge. The Meissen Red Dragon could be found in upper Bavaria for the most part, the Eagles Nest and the Kehlsteinhaus, but rarely encountered without provenance. The Nymphenburg can be found at the Deutscher Hof, the Berghof, and on his special train and throughout the Reichsbahn. In addition it is also utilized in Berchestgaden and in at least one state service of "Pearl" dinnerware bearing an underside state Reichsadler.
So what is this?. I believe this is to be a gift or presentation with a window of manufacture of 1936-38. The Berghof is Haus Wachenfeld until 1935 when its renamed to the Berghof after its purchase in 1933 by Hitler. Construction in 1936 adds the eastward extension reflected on the bowl. The secondary construction extending the great hall takes place in 1938 which makes the date of the bowl 1936-1938, even if you want to go past that, the use of gold gilt stops cold in 1939 with the wartime ban on precious metals. The box is not a storage box, its a very high quality box with period hinges and a roped border reminiscent of an Allach box of its type and lined with satin as opposed to a felt and it is manufactured to sit on a display angle within the box.
A beautiful piece of the highest quality in a form fitted display case and mint condition.
