WWII German Prisoner-of-War Made Mahogany Covered Jewelry Box With Carved Spread Wing Eagle
This box was purchased in the southern Arizona area and is believed to have been made by a German prisoner-of-war at Camp Papago Park, east of Phoenix. The box is very well-made of mahogany and is lined on the inside with a wine color cut silk velvet, and the base is covered with a pale green, cut silk velvet. The fitted lid has a figural straight winged eagle (without swastika) on a smaller wood base set onto the lid. The box measures approximately 6 1/2"x 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" tall to the top of the eagle's wings. The box is in excellent original condition with a few dark spots in the lining. The lid fits perfectly. Unique item, to be sure!
