Horst Wessel Memorial Bronze # 1063
Early National Socialist pieces of any quality are difficult to find, Horst Wessel pieces of quality are just not out there.
Horst Wessel was an early party martyr who was killed by communists after a reported feud with his landlady. Goebbels wasted no time in capitalizing on the death of the young SA man and the song he wrote "Die Fahne Hoch" or Raise the Flag High, which went on to become the party anthem.
The
piece appears to be a bronze or bronze alloy and is signed as well, it
measures 13 inches in diameter. I searched high and low for a period
photo of this piece as it reminded me of a grave marker or may have been
placed somewhere relevant to his place of death, but to no avail. It
was pried off whatever it hung on and it is a real nice piece.
