This bust was created by Frtiz Koelle in 1936, and was exhibited in the Haus der Deutschen Kunst exhibition in Munich in 1940 with it referenced in the period exhibition catalog.

Also referenced in Mortimer Davidson's Der Kunst In Deutschland 1933-1945, the piece is a well known and a very rare example of Third Reich Bronze and with Horst Wessel as the subject, it is foundry marked to the base " Guss Brandstetter Munchen ".

Horst Wessel (October 9, 1907 – February 23, 1930) was an early Nazi Party activist who's life ended before the start of the war at the hands of a Communist party member. He was made a Martyr of the Nazi movement by Joseph Goebbels, and his song lyrics to Die Fahne hoch ( The Flag Up High ) was made the anthem for the the Nazi Party by Adolf Hitler from 1933-45. 

A very desirable and rare piece of Third Reich History. This is a large piece at approximately 17 inches high and exact measurement will follow, but larger than life. Exceptionally rare piece.
