Hermann Goring Bust ( Walther Wolff ) 1936 # 1173
Its not easy finding nice busts of Adolf Hitler in the market and
while I can manage to grab one here and there when I am lucky, finding a
Hermann Goring is another matter. And here is not only a Hermann, but a
Hermann Goring by Walther Wolff.
Walther Wolff busts are
uncommon amongst the uncommon and his style make these some of the
nicest examples that can be had. This particular piece is actually twice
life size and is massive and sits at an overall height of 19 1/2 inches
including its 4 inch base and weighs in at about 60 pounds.
Walther
Wolff who did this sculpture in 1936 had also done a striking example
of Adolf Hitler in 1933 and was a well known artist of the period, and
his expressive like style almost brings his pieces into a Breker like
appearance which means quite a bit. Wolff was a Berlin based artist and
studied under the likes of George Kolbe. His resume has him with
contributions to the Berlin Academy of Arts, as well as having his works
displayed at the Munich House of Arts.
The large Wolff
Hermann busts would have been commissioned pieces and they are
individually numbered on the plinth, they no doubt would have been
displayed prominently in buildings and places worthy of such pieces.
