Gahr Reiter Finial Eagle SS/NSKK # 1198
1935 Pattern Gahr finial from the prestigious firm of Otto and Carolina Gahr. The Gahr firm most famous for being the silver smiths to the SS and manufacturer of the SS Honor ring were also responsible for some of the most desirable collector pole tops manufactured during the Third Reich. The most well known being the large Deutschland Erwache pole top bearing the gold eagle over the larger swastika, and of course this little beauty which was designed to sit atop reiter standarte's for the SS and the NSKK.
This example stands on a make shift base and stands approx. 9 inches high and has an 8 inch wingspan, the original configuration for this piece would have the mounting apparatus set up so that the bird would hang horizontally in a drape down carry method. As is often the case the original mounting cups for the pole have been removed and the are rarely found complete and most times if you find one in market the mounts have been fabricated to period specifications.
