Manufactured prior to 1900 by the firm of Wessel, this 12 inch plate is hand painted and of high quality.

Frederick the Great is a key figure of European history and he is depicted in many forms, most often these pieces are sloppy or overdone with the key exception being the Allach rider which is second to none, but this piece is quite nice and worthy of display here.

Frederick is something of a complicated figure and was much admired by key figures during the 3rd Reich. Hitler was a great admirer of Frederick the Great and when looking at both figures from an historical level, it would appear that Adolf Hitler tried to model himself and his policies in a similar manner in many cases, but Frederick and his accomplishments were far beyond his reach, and he was no wheres near the man himself.

Fritz the musician, philosopher, diplomat, warrior, and tactical genius is without question one of the most interesting figures of European history and even garnered the admiration of Napoleon.

This is a nice piece and will keep this one as good depictions of this man are not common and if the French get hold of the subject they turn it into something that looks like a whiskey decanter. If not for Frederick the Great we may not even have nice porcelain to talk about.
