Fascist Italian 1942 Bronze Eagle Trophy Presented to Zurich Roller Club for Hockey Match # 3367
This is a scarce wartime cast bronze Italian eagle, a trophy presented by the Federazione Italiana Hockey e Pattinaggio, to the Zurich Roller Club, the winners of a roller hockey match between the Swiss and Italian, teams held in Zurich on 1-2 August 1942, XX Era Facscisti. The cast bronze eagle sits with its talons curled over the front edge of the original, unpolished travertine base. The metal plaque on the front of the base has the information about the match. The overall height is about 12 1/4". It weight just over 13 lbs.The bronze is unsigned, but unmistakably Italian in style. Nice detail with an untouched green/ brown patina. Rare to find a wartime sculpture in cast bronze. Apparently the copper restrictions were not enforced as vigorously in Italy as in Germany.
