The 1936 Olympics held in Berlin are pretty much a subject within them self and there are numerous items to be found in market ranging from period books to knick-knack pieces that were manufactured for the event at the time.

The events held at the Reichsportsfeld would not only include the historic games, but would serve to show the world the new Germany with architecture and art work of every shape, size, and form.

The Olympic bell which still exists today albeit damaged, was designed by Walter Lemcke a well known sculptor of the period. Several models in various form were manufactured for sale, gifts, or for use during the event, the most notable and common are two small porcelain pieces. The first is a model of the bell identical to this manufactured by the firm of K.P.M and a second which took the form of a bell shaped piggy bank, what is not often encountered are the larger bells utilized at the games on the field or for that matter, this piece; which is the first original example I have ever encountered.

This bronze example bearing the initials of Lemcke who also designed the Olympic torch is about the same size as the K.P.M porcelain variant and is quite rare and while I am sure a few originals must exist, their just not out there.

Whoever bought this home did utilize his skills in woodworking and manufactured a very nice display for it where it hangs quite nicely.
