Art- Paintings of the Third Reich # 1890
I have been looking to a do paper art section for some time but it can
be difficult to obtain here in the states at least really nice pieces anyway.
Its also a difficult market being that National Socialist art is often
viewed as taboo or propaganda material, and in some cases it is. But
what it really is, is art nothing more and nothing less. Neoclassical or
essentially classical in nature the art or much of it is really nice
and not all of it is propaganda as much as it is a reflection of the
culture and of its time. The degenerate art and acceptable art argument
for the period of the 3rd Reich is noted, but at the same time one must
recognize that cultural strength is derived from art and culture and it
has been that way forever.
One of things that's nice about art is the fact that it is incapable of lying, its merely a slice of time and once the moment in time when that last brush stroke hits a canvas and the work is completed it becomes truth, and it is forever locked into history as a reflection of that time. From this point it becomes a matter of interpretation and what one man see's is different than that of another, the application of politics adds another layer and complicates the equation with a element of passion or disdain.
I
think when I started this site this is the direction I eventually
wanted to take but have put it off time and time again because I know
writing the pieces up requires time and its really a European market,
that is where the pieces are in most cases and I buy them here and there
for myself and they can get pricey. I am also something of a political
collector and the era is essentially a political movement so there will
be no shortage of political pieces here, but I will try and balance it
out as time allows.
