The early reference books dating back to the 60's and 70's have the production of this dagger at 200 pieces. The initial run thought to be awarded by Heinrich Himmler to participants of the "Rohm Purge" or the "Night of Long Knives" in June 1934 was a fitting explanation and may be in fact the case. The elimination of Ernst Rohm and the SA would pave the way for the SS to grow without any interference.

What has changed is the number manufactured and that can range from 600-2500. Either way a rare dagger. Along with the standard etch to the front of the blade "Meine Ehre Heisst Treue" ( My Honor is Loyalty) the addition of the presentation etch to the rear of the blade is noted."In Herzlicher Kamaradschaft H. Himmler" or In True Comradeship Heinrich Himmler.

Carl Eickhorn being the sole manufacture of these presentations, the attributes of the daggers differ in some respects to standard model 1933 daggers. The single manufacture and these attributes help assist in identifying original specimens. But like anything else SS, one must do their homework. A very desirable dagger and one that came from the top.
