Dachau Herb Chest SS # 676
"Dachau", in close proximity to the Allach Porcelain concern and a
labor camp, it is an all familiar word for the historian and 3rd Reich
collector. From this area comes much history, and many items that
involve the SS.
The mindset behind many of these pieces and the roots and
rituals of the SS, are based on a celebration of their ancestry. The job
of stepping back centuries and bringing back all the roots of their
ancient culture and reigniting it, was taken on by none other than
Heinrich Himmler. It was more of a desire, and one that he took quite
seriously. He certainly did not disappoint with this piece.
Most all collectibles pertaining to the SS bear some form of pagan
attributes, or have a crude ancient appearance with an application of
various runic symbols or designs dating back centuries. It is this
aspect that makes them very special, and leaves the collector with a
thirst that cannot be satisfied. He may try and explain his hobby in
simple terms, but the reality can be much more profound.
"Heinrich Himmler had an interest
in matters relating to herbs and herbal remedies. Within the Dachau
Concentration Camp complex, an herbal garden had been established at the
wish of Himmler. A small quantity of wooden oak chests were made
housing wooden containers with samples of different herbs; these were
given as special gifts to certain SS leaders" ( Ullrich-"The SS leadership Corp")
The source of this piece was a direct vet purchase in upstate N.Y, along with the piece, an SS officer's ensemble, sword, hat, over coat and boots belonging to SS Officer Major Winter who was on Himmler's staff and his wife was Frau. Anny Winter who was Hitler's long time house keeper.
Being a collector and enthusiast of history and the 3rd Reich for many years, it is quite rare that I see a piece such as this.Dachauherbgardens
