K-8 Fuhrerkopf (Hitler Bust) # 540
The" Fûhrerkopf"
was a listed catalog item showing production in 1938 and 1939. It was
most likely one of the earliest K-Prefix pieces going back to 1936.
In an article published in "The Military Advisor" by Joe Wotka noted below, the author referenced several dated decrees by Heinrich Himmler that together would eliminate the use of metallic awards for future national police sporting competitions. In a published report in the March, 1937 issue of "Deutsche Polizei" discussing the German Police Ski Championship held in the Black Forest area of Baden on February 24-26 1937, the article states that "the winners would receive for the last time the large non-portable medals present for the last several years in National Police Sports Competitions sponsored by the Reichsminister of the interior."
In a later and more notable decree"Himmler forbade any future presentation of the older medals or other such plaques or gifts of metal as prizes for national police competitions, sporting events and so forth."
The Author goes on to state that along with the Allach Ehrenpreis ( Police Plate ), other presentations designated as an Ehrenpreis were presented, including both the "Der Fechter" and the "Fûhrerkopf". The Fûhrerkopf was awarded to the First Place winning team of the 1937 Polizei Gepackmarsch competition and subsequent years.Furthermore, the Fûhrerkopf may have been awarded to the top four positions or just the first place team with those 2nd to 4th teams receiving an Ehrenpreis plate.
After contacting the Author on receipt of the article, it was determined that two individual Fûhrer busts were manufactured: the catalog model K-8 and a second presentation model that was molded to be affixed to a base of another design.
